The colors used here are grayish violet, yellowish white, and black. The real-life situation of Nicholaas Chiao inspired this painting. He was extremely attracted to a young, beautiful classmate in Belarus, a connection to whom he lost nearly completely upon moving to America. The painting symbolizes the loss of their physical relations.
