Artwork Description:
A polyptych of wild creatures and human forms, each rendered in a state of radical distortion, continues the expressive lineage of Francis Bacon. In creating these distorted figures, the artist employs a technique akin to pulling paint across the canvas with a palette knife, shaping forms into exaggerated snouts and claws. This method not only accentuates the grotesque but also highlights Bacon's influence in transforming the ordinary into something profoundly unsettling. By dragging the paint, Chiao intends to physically manifest the internal chaos and psychological turmoil inherent in his subjects, linking the painting process directly to his conceptual aims. The tactile nature of the palette knife evokes a sense of immediacy and rawness, reinforcing the thematic exploration of chaos and order. The palette oscillates between the violence of bright yellow and orange and the restraint of pinkish gray and green-gray, conjuring a world at the threshold of chaos and order.
