One of many self-portraits by Nicholaas Chiao, this time depicting him as a demon. Mikhail Vrubel was another artist dealing with the demonic nature of man. In his late career, Vrubel depicted a lot of dark characters, and he died defeated by a psychiatric illness. For Nicholaas Chiao, the story of Mikhail Vrubel was quite alarming, but he chose to create this self-portrait of a demonic character. Fece is distorted and not anatomically correct, yet it is extremely correct to the demonic mood. The colors used here are warm browns and ocher adored by the strokes of light red and pink paint.
