This painting was directly influenced by the death of the artist's grandmother, and the artist, willing to create a memorial for her, depicted her as the guard of the gates of Death with the scythe. The artist's grandmother's hobby was photography and by her hands family history was well preserved. Artists believe in the human possibility to defeat death, therefore she is a symbol of a guarded area of nothingness with the possibility of uncovering death's secrets behind these gates.
