Artwork Description:
In The Angel of Fig Tree, the artist depicted an older woman in national costume as Death, wielding a scythe. Nicholaas Chiao created a lot of works dealing with the themes of mortality as a response to the deaths of his grandparents in Minsk. This painting also reminds us of the work of Diego Velázquez, whose portraits Chiao always admired.
